Goodbye For Now

As you may have noticed, I have not posted since January of 2011 (sad face…). Due to a full-time job in the real world I haven’t been able to put as much effort into as I would have liked and I didn’t want to write just for the sake of writing. A blog is all about content – not just repurposing information. Therefore, I decided to “shut down” fashionspirations for the time being.

But have no fear! This blog will one day be re-opened or replaced by another (BETTER!) blog.

To all of my readers – thank you for continuing to read fashionspirations and share your opinions with me. All if you have been inspirational.

Diesel Island

After launching its “BE STUPID STUPID” campaign in 2010, Diesel has created a new campaign called “Diesel Island” where those who wish to “be stupid’ can in fact do so. It’s online marketing team is calling it “lost but with nicer clothes and no polar bears.”

Here are a few highlights of the Diesel Island campaign:

  • Print and outdoor campaigns showing these new immigrants exploring the new island
  • Viral videos, a Facebook application and a game based on island’s everyday life, pirate radio
  • Its own Wikipedia entry, updated every week as the emerging society and its rules and regulations evolve
  • Diesel stores will become the official “embassies” of the island, with flags, maps and explanations of the philosophy

I especially love  the copy on one of the ads “Diesel Island is the least fucked-up country in the world. But give us time.”

What do you think? Do you think it’s a good way to continue the “BE STUPID” campaign in a less controversial way?

Natalie Portman’s 2011 Golden Globes Acceptance Speech

So so happy for Natalie Portman on her win for Best Actress. You can tell how grateful she was in her speech – I especially love the part where she thanks her fiancĂ©.

If you haven’t seen Black Swan yet – do it!

Richard Phillips

Nylon Magazine just wrote a blog post about one of Richard Phillips’ newest pieces – a portrait of Kirsten Stewart. This portrait looks very similar to her Nylon Cover (just flipped). See below:

What do you think?

These portraits are part of Phillips’ new “Most Wanted” exhibition – in which he paints young Hollywood Icons. Here are few other examples of his work:

If you are a Gossip Girl fan, you may recognize this painting hanging in the Van Der Woodsen penthouse:

Calvin Klein’s 2011 Collection Commercial

“Modern Elegance, Timeless Luxury”

Calvin Klein’s new commercial featuring Lara Stone. I am always a fan of commercial campaigns for fashion designers – they always come out so beautifully done.

Why I Wish I Was Marie Antoinette

Because of my recent nostalgia for Paris and my yearning to go back, I thought I would share some of the pictures I took of Versailles while there. Although it was my second time being there (the first was when I was only 12), I appreciated it so much more and felt like I was seeing so much more.

If you ever go, you must see Marie Antoinette’s pretend village. The palace is, of course, usually the main attraction (and unbelievably gorgeous and decadent), but I found her village so much more interesting. They even still have animals there! (As well as beautiful vegetable gardens). Unfortunately, you can’t go up into her little cottage, but just walking around the grounds was amazing. She had secret caves, and ponds, and everything you could possibly think of.

This is why I wish I was her…
