Music is always an important aspect of the holiday season. You need music not only for Christmas dinner, but for baking, winter get-togethers, and just relaxing and sipping hot coco on cold winter nights. Here are some of my favorites to listen to for the holidays.
1. Norah Jones
Something about her voice reminds me of New York City during the holidays. Listening to her, I feel like I’m in a small cafe in New York lined with Christmas lights, drinking hot chocolate. Maybe this is because she is often playing in Starbucks… However, her music is also great for dinner parties and small romantic dinners.
My favorite albums of hers are “Feels Like Home” and “Not To Late”. Although, she did win a Grammy in 2003 after producing “Come Away With Me” – which is another great album. Anything by Norah Jones you will love. If you don’t want to purchase her albums just yet, make a play list on Pandora and you will slowly find yourself humming her songs.
2. The Annual Starbucks Christmas CD
Every year, me and my mom make it a point to purchase the Starbucks Christmas CD. From Frank Sinatra to Sarah McLachlan to John Legend to Betty Wright, the Starbucks Christmas CD always has the best mixture of Christmas songs. (Great to play during Christmas dinner).
3. Anything Grey’s
The Grey’s Anatomy Soundtrack always has the best songs (not only for the Holidays). Even if you don’t watch the show, you will still love the music. Featured artists include Rilo Kiley, Tegan and Sara, Inara George, Anya Marina, and many other artists you have never heard of before this album but will soon grow to love.
One of my all-time favorite Christmas songs I found through the Grey’s Anatomy Soundtrack: “It Came Upon A Midnight Clear” by Sixpence None The Richer. (Yes, the same band who sang “Kiss Me” from “She’s All That”).
